Wicked Raven Farm is a 4.5 acre homestead located in Big Lake, Alaska in an area known as the "Millers Reach Burn". We grow fruit trees, including cherries and apples, berries of all types, and we are doing some challenging experiments with things like grapes and sunchokes. We practice permaculture and organic systems, and we encourage the kids to participate to the point that our youngest son Reed has his own garden areas and is allowed to pursue his own creative genius in his spaces.
Wicked Raven Farm also has a fantastic greenhouse that houses tomatoes by the dozen as well as peppers and cukes. We are working on becoming a year around operation utilizing some renewable energy sources (off the grid style). In the blog we will be keeping readers apprised of the things we are doing and what is working as we proceed with the renewable energy projects, design projects, recipes and other fun stuff. Covid did a number on some of our plans, as did the passing of my son in 2016. We are just now coming up for air and learning how to tread water and try to get the things done.
The blog started because I had given some lectures on grazing in your yard, and eating healthy with weeds, and I had so many requests to come to meetings that were far away that I could not keep up and felt that this was a good way to get some of that information out without me having to drive 70 miles to do it! I am greatly enjoying the creative outlet that it allows me to have.
I am 56 years and young, the daughter of two master gardeners, one a fruit expert and one a veggie and flower expert. Wicked Raven Farm looks nothing like Snowfire Gardens, but Reed and I have gleaned a lot of knowledge and many, many plants from them. We are a work in progress.
I have two sons, my oldest (23) passed away in 2016, and my younger son is now 23 - you will see a lot about Reed in the blog as he is very active with his future wife Keyona, being a dog dad, fishing, fun mens hockey and his work at a construction company (Haven Builders).
I work full time as the secretary at a local High School, I am part owner of Ace Water Wells and Pump Service (www.acewaterwelldrilling.com).
I also design quilts, and have a penchant for all types of crafts except knitting and scrapbook - I just can't get the hang of those even though I enjoy the end result. Keep your eyes open for some of our Wicked Raven Crafts projects that will be featured in the blog and on Pinterest!
Thank you for checking out my blog and I hope you will find the information useful! Blessed Be!
