Wicked Raven Designs

12/05/22Been a long time since I added anything to this page - I have been adding them to the regular postings!  I have been a busy bee and actually sold my first pattern on my ETSY store just the other day!  Check it out here!  It is an original design and one that I have worked on for a long time!  It is called "Twisted Star".  I was waiting until it was "perfect" before publishing and adding it to the store but a friend said to me - "why are you waiting?  Just do it!  You could die tomorrow and all of that time would be wasted and no one would ever get to enjoy it - including you!"  So I just did it!  It felt great!

It has been quite a year of babies in our circle of friends and I have spent some great times putting together some fun baby quilts.  Now that I am trying to be better at doing things I love and spending at least 15 minutes a day quilting or designing (and now that the gardening season is slowing down) Im feeling pretty productive about things!

Above photo is a little boy quilt that I made after I consulted Pinterest for a bit during  a long car ride!  I love this quilt and I think I will make a bed sized quilt like this.  I made it using all leftover scrap triangles from other projects that I have done!

This one is part of a set (can't find the picture of the other one and already sent them off to their new homes) I made for brothers - a Big brother and the new baby that they will have soon who is also a boy.  The quilt for the new baby is the same pattern just with different colors and a little smaller.  The big brother is three now and I missed out on giving him a quilt so Im giving him one now.  The pattern fabric is dirt bikes and his little baby brother is getting dump trucks and heavy equipment.

I have been keeping busy here on the Farm this (kinda) summer!  We have had a few thunder and lightening storms of late and although I love the "funder' and lightening (Rye always called it that and he loved it too) Brix (who happens to be Rye's dog) does NOT love the funder!  So I happened to have some time to get into the sewing room and finish a few of the projects that I have been wanting to do.

Above photo is a quilt I did as a comfort quilt for a friend who is undergoing chemo.  It has a fleece coziness on the back so it is extra warm.  It is small for her and nogt a bed blanket so that she can take it to the hospital with her and it will keep her warm nut wont be in the way of the procedures!  Literally a blanket of love for her while she fights the good fight!  Pray for a win for her please!

Below is a baby quilt for the newest Viking child to grace us with his presence!   It didnt get there until after he did but they live in Minnesota and it has been too hot there to use this one anyway.  Our family has great memories of bird hunting with this little guys dad so the dog and bird panels were a perfect fit for him.  This one has a cozy flanned on the back - also with animals printed on it!

I am in love with this new quilt top!  This is "Stars and Storms" and it is built out of two different sets of "exchange blocks".  My family did some projects in 2006 and 2007 - thats how long Ive been working with this one- and we each got to draw a month and that would be the month that our blocks would be due from our other family members.  We did two rounds, two different years - my first year I chose fifteen different star or stormy looking fabrics and told the family members they could make whatever star or storm block they wanted to - that is the round that all of the star and the lighthouse blocks came from (I did have to make one star block). The next year I sent out fabric that was like water or waves and asked for the "storm at sea" blocks that are in between the stars and the lighthouse.

All of the family members signed their blocks so it is very much a family quilt and Im so excited to get it quilted - hopefully soon!

This is my stormy water border fabric.  I think it really ties all the blocks together and gives me the look I imagined.  As usual, the pictures do not do this one justice!

This lavendar beauty (Olivias Garden) is again for a co-worker who got a Goddess over the summer.  It is not my pattern but is adapted from a pattern in the book "500 small quilt blocks".  I don't really do "small" blocks so I made it a bigger block and I like the result.  This little girl was about 7 weeks early so she had to spend a bit of time in the hospital but Im pretty sure her parents thinnk she was worth it!

Another shot of "Olivias Garden"

This "Garden Trellis" quilt is another baby quilt I made for the child of one of my favorite people in the world!  I was sure he was getting a boy too but luckily they found out ahead of time that they were getting a Goddess!  These folks live across the state from me now and so I haven't got to meet this one in person but I can't wait!  Hopefully at Christmas.

This is "Crazy Frogs" another baby quilt for a co-worker who is getting a boy.  It is in the snowball and 9 patch pattern and is all flannel.  It is such a fun quilt and soft as all get out! It is really fun to do the baby quilts and have them be so appreciated by the new parents to be, and for them to get to feel the love of a handmade quilt.

These are the Naughty Bears!  This quilt is made from a panel of fabric called Naughty Bears and I "fussy cut" them and then pieced borders around them to make a baby quilt for a new baby boy that a co-worker will have soon!

My favorite of the panels is the bear holding the two owls - a nice set of hooters it is called!  Quilters have some of the best humor!

This is the new logo - still needs a little tweaking yet, but I am excited to get things started!  Watch for a new quilt pattern I will be previewing and marketing soon!  Happy Quilting!

This happy little addition to the blog is a quilt I made for a friends baby - I was sure he was getting a boy - but she is a beauty!  He said he would be cool with a boy quilt for his girl and so this is what he got for her - his people love to fish so I designed this quilt to reflect all the different Alaska experiences from the mountains, to the Valley's to the sea!

This shot shows a little more detail in the quilt.
