The People Quilt gets a new bed!

The crazy covid "no travel lockdowns" has meant the People quilt has been pretty stationary and non-adventurous for almost 3 years now, and it has also meant that the mattresses on the beds get noticed a lot more.  We are using them more! Especially those of us who have had covid.

It is said that you should replace your mattress every 7 to 10 years and ours was at least 10 years old!  It had that fun swale on each side of the bed and the "hump" in the middle!  Not in a good way either!

This is the old mattress - ready to go out the doors and down the road.  It will have an adventure before we do!

So it was time for a new mattress!  But since Covid started I don't like to shop really - especially if I have to go and "try" things.  So I had been putting off the mattress purchase, on and on.

But then one of my friends texted and said she had an extra firm mattress that wont work for her that was brand new and she was giving it away!  We love an extra firm mattress!  Too good to be true you say?  Yes I thought so too.  But she had just had a hip replacement and the mattress was too firm for her new hip.  Plus it had been run over by a truck!  Not kidding at all and you can laugh about that!

Its a beautiful Tempurpedic mattress and it actually flew out of the back of the truck, going down the road at 60 miles an hour and another truck ran over it.  Literally!

So the Tempurpedic Technician (who knew there was even such a thing?) came out to her house and did a repair of the tear in the mattress and you cannot tell that there was ever a problem! It still wouldn't work for her hip though - just too firm!

So the extra firm mattress came home - after a few false starts and some quarantines that is!  I went to pick it up thinking it would bend enough to fit in the back of my car.  No!  Won't bend enough and is too long.  Reedo was going to help me get it but first he was working out of town, and when he got home - quarantine!  So finally Hubby and I were home on the same day at the same time and it wasn't raining, snowing, blowing fiercely, or anything else crazy and we were able to pick it up.

Made up with fresh mattress pad and sheets and it is a sight to behold!

And the People Quilt is right at home!  Happy to be there but ready for some adventures outside the house soon we hope!

I hope your mattress is comfy, your quilts are cozy, that you get to have a little adventure in your life and friends to help you out once in a while!

Blessed be and be well!

Death of a Right Hand

It has been a few minutes since you have heard from me hasn't it!?  That is because I have had another death!  Not of the human variety or even the fur baby variety, thank goodness, but of the computer variety!  There was a little crying anyway - mostly frustration though! The laptop that I use for all things not Ace Water Wells just gave me the spinning wheel of death one day right before Christmas Break!  No fix to be had either!  I called the "Geeks" and the Dell Tech department also, but they all said the same thing....."spinning wheel of death is not good!" and "sometimes it happens!"

The above is my beloved laptop that died!  It was only three years old and I had really not backed up as often as I should have so I lost a TON of stuff from it going kaput!  Pictures, including of Rye, Reed and of my "blog preps" items.  My "blog preps" are things I plan to write about so I start them as Word documents and then transplant them into the actual blog when I am ready.   My quilt designs and copyright starts, and patterns that were not yet copyrighted and printed even!  I try not to get attached to computers, but I like to have a little decoration on them and personalize them.  I had really just got used to using all my programs on the old one, but based on the information I was given....

New laptop was ordered and shipped on the fast track!  I ordered one that was close to what I had - so I would know how to use it - but one that is smaller and lighter than the other one.  This one weighs just 3.7 pounds!  Easy carry!  There have been a few hiccups with changing over to a new one without being able to transfer things over... my email won't work on the new one and we are still working with my provider tech department to get it working.  My Electric Quilt that I use for my design starts said I had used up all of the licenses for it even though I still have a subscription - that one ended up being easy thanks to the fantastic customer service at Electric Quilt!  I emailed them on Christmas Eve about it and they replied the day after - released my license so I could download it onto the new computer!  Yay!

SO now I have the new one personalized and I am putting all of the things back on it, and setting up folders, and rescuing pictures from the cloud and re scanning some that didn't go to the cloud.  I am learning Windows 11 which the new laptop "magically" upgraded me to.  It is a long work in progress.

The only other thing is that I forgot about really liking the 10 key pad to the right of the keyboard!  I did not realize how much I would miss having that.  It is a bit slower using the row at the top of the keyboard.  Still works great though!

Lesson learned for me and lesson given to you!  Back up your stuff at least weekly and make sure your zip drive isn't too full when you do!

I hope your New Year is full of wonderful and light, and may all your lessons be easy!  Blessed be!
